ROLL OF HONOUR 2021
2021’s Quiz season ended on Sunday far away in Madrid where RUSSIA, the favourites with 2 TOP 5 players, beating Croatia to win the Davis Cup. The British media had gone home after GB had lost out to Germany in a series of penalty shoot-outs(tie breaks).They should have stayed;
back in England, there was drama as Russia’s win transformed the list of prize winners.
GOLD MEDAL(£234)went to ROB PEARCE, oblivious to last minute drama for he had sealed victory back in August with an awesome Olympics display.
SILVER MEDAL(£156) went to GLYN JAMES. Fair’s fair, the gnarled old Forester has been trying long enough. Glyn’s the only quizzer apart from John Snedden ever present in the list. Much as I love him, I groaned for he had pushed another legendary Forest Quiz benefactor Peter Watkins off the podium.
BRONZE MEDAL(£78)went to Emma and Steve Ellis. Wonder who will claim the credit? The Ellis pair beat Peter on the tie break so even worse Watkins luck.
But that’s not all the glory, thanks to the hard work of Webmaster Henry Carpenter-Clawson.
Even if the mini league winners have no reward from bragging rights over the family turkey
or office party
(I REPEAT-THERE WAS NO QUIZ HQ PARTY in 2020 or 2021
NOR DID WE SNOG TOTAL STRANGERS UNDER THE MISTLETOE)
It is truly an international quiz.
Well done, IAN COLE, Worldwide winner, locked down in Perth, WA.
On the Celtic fringe, Rob Pearce was Welsh Wizard, and Chris Rogers won AULD LANG SYNE.
In family squabbles,
TOM WAPLINGTON was Top BREWER.
JOHN EDWARDS won the Matthews battle.
RAE CROSSLEY was Top CROSSLEY
(Since Rae was married on an ecstatic day in August, even she may no longer be called Crossley.)
CHRISTIAN SHAW won the TWINNIE LEAGUE.
(I can hear the Loughborough gnashing of teeth from here, Jane)
In old school tie reunions
James Spencer won the Monmouth Massive.
Neil Southwood(aka Cub reporter)was GHOST CHILD 2021.
For obscure historical there are many Quiz hot spots in the leafy shires.
STEVE NOBLE won the Casterbridge title.
KEVIN DAGNALL won the Suffolk title but also the prestigious DEBUTANT title.
Emma Ellis will probably regard her win in the Lace League(Nottingham),Glyn James his Severnside win as being worth more than the fortunes they have won above..
Quiz HQ would like now to give heartfelt thanks to the contributors to the Quiz Update.
Edward Gilder on cycling, Nigel Anderton on assorted manly pursuits, Neil Dewhurst on matters American and of course long suffering Cub, Neil Southwood.
There would be far less gaiety in the world without Webmaster Henry
and Gender Officer Emeritus Bob Challis still casts his wary eye over the gender balance.

Quiz tips will be available for Christmas reading but since I was finished in the bottom third, you may prefer to ignore these pearls and follow canny quizzers like those below.
44)CHELSEA could only put ten quizzers on the field for the finale to the quizzing season but it was an international team, packed with talent, MARION WARR, STEVE SHAW, EDDIES RAINS& COOK, RACHEL VAN STAVEREN, GILBERT PATTINSON, MAUREEN TAYLOR, JASON WILLIAMS ,PAULS JONES & LUCAS. All ten filled out their sheets around Christmas 2020 and decided to ignore the lacklustre performances of the dying days of Frank Lampard as manager. Twelve months later, we look at the European Champions, flying high at the top of the Premiership and wonder how we could not see. The answer is called Thomas Tuchel and the influence of one man is perhaps a moment of hope for the fifty or more quizzers who chose Manchester United and are totally bemused by the ragged shambles seen hiding recently in the Old Trafford dressing room.
